Asia Argento was born in Rome, Italy, into an extended family of actors and filmmakers, both occupations which she herself has pursued. At the age of nine, Asia Argento made her acting debut in Sergio Cittis Sogni e bisogni. The role she played was the main one in Cristina Comencini's Zoo (1988) as well in Michele Soavi's 1989 film The Church. In 1989, she portrayed Nanni Moretti's baby as the Red Wood Pigeon. (Also directed by Moretti). Close Friends (1992) by Michele Placido (both writer and director) is where Asia truly began to become a household name. It allowed her to progress from roles that were primarily young females to more sophisticated adult character. It was a huge success during the Cannes International Film Festival. The Phantom of The Opera is her third film alongside her father. Trauma and The Stendhal Syndrome were her first two. The Phantom of the Opera is her third film together with the director's father. Her next collaboration was with Michel Piccoli on Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion in 1995, giving her a second David di Donatello, as in addition to a Grolla D'oro. In 1994 Asia began filmmaking and made two short films: Prospettive In 1996, she directed a documentary on her father, and in 1998, a film about cult director Abel Ferrara, Abel/Asia (1998) and was awarded an award at the Rome Film Festival. Asia made her debut as a director of feature in Scarlet Diva (2000). The film featured her as a director. She also starred and authored the screenplay. It was released on May 20, 2000 both in Italy, and throughout the globe. The film was given a special prize by the Williamsburg Festival of Film in Brooklyn. After directing a number of music videos and giving birth, she welcomed her first daughter, Anna Lou. In 2002 Asia appeared as a character in The Red Siren with Jean Marc Barr, and Rob Cohen's Action thriller, which was directed by Vin Diesel. Asia is also the author of several stories that have been published in a variety of high-end magazines.
